Interview with Mr. James Ferraro, author of BLINDSIDED

Blindsided front final cover                                 blinded

Hello everyone. I want to take this time to say that we have a thrilling court case book and it’s based on a true story. This story in the book actually happened. So I hope you prepare yourself to read such an intriguing interview to say the least.  This particular case that’s written by Mr. Ferraro is one that everyone should know about and be aware of. So, I just want to thank the author for sharing this with the world.

Furthermore, I urge you to check out the book trailer of Blindsided by simply clicking the link:

1.    Could you tell me a little bit about yourself and how you became a successful lawyer?

I started my law firm two years out of law school in 1985. By the late 1980’s   I was involved with asbestos litigation which is a mass tort practice.  By the     early 90’s my law firm was performing above my wildest expectations.  The     first asbestos case that I took to trial was for a friend of a business agent for        a large union.  The trial was successful and the business agent thereafter   referred hundreds of cases to my law firm.

2. Could you give a brief summary about Blindsided: One man’s fight for a child born without eyes?

The book is about a child born without eyes due to his mother’s exposure to a very dangerous fungicide between seven and ten weeks into her pregnancy.  The exposure caused her child to be born without eyes. The case went to trial against DuPont. The trial involved testimony from thirteen different expert witnesses due to the difficulty in proving a chemical exposure case.  The science is very difficult in chemical exposure cases because ethically you cannot test chemicals on pregnant women.  The trial resulted in the first verdict worldwide against a chemical company for a birth defect.

3. Why did you take this particular case in the first place?

The plaintiff was very emotional and suffered a grave injustice.  However, I was not going to take the case due to the extreme level of difficulty.  After some limited research we found a study where the chemical was tested on pregnant rats and 43% of the rat offspring were born with no eyes or other ocular abnormalities.  Even though the deck was stacked against us, we decided we would take a shot.

4. Could you explain the purpose in writing about this case? What do you want readers to get out of it after reading it?

We are writing about the case because the law regarding the admission of science in the courtroom needs to be changed.  Currently, defendants like DuPont seek to exclude science under the guise of junk science.  In this particular case, DuPont was seeking to exclude some of the science that they submitted to the EPA to get their product licensed.  I believe a law should be written whereby a corporation or individual who submits scientific data to a governmental agency for licensing purposes is admissible in a court of law.

5.  What is your writing habit? How did you balance being a lawyer and writing this book?

I was spending a minimum of four to eight hours per setting.  It is a very difficult balance trying to practice law and writing a book of this nature at the same time.  The last year was very grueling but rewarding.

6. Did your experience with the case change you in anyway?

The case gave me a very deep insight into how the public is subject to grave injustices when it comes to pursuing a corporation like DuPont on a technical issue like science.

7.  If (or when) the book becomes a movie, would you do a cameo?

When the book becomes a movie I will consider a cameo appearance in a limited capacity as one of my adversaries.

8. Have you kept in touch with anyone from the case? If so, can you update readers about them (particularly the woman and her baby)?

I have had limited contact with the plaintiffs over the years as a form of respect to their privacy and to allow them to move on with their lives.  I know the family is doing well and I am very happy that we were able to make a difference in their lives.

9. Are you working on another book?  If so, could you talk a bit about it?

I have not started thinking about another book yet.  I wouldn’t rule it out.

10. What was the most surprising thing you learned writing this book?

The most surprising thing that I learned about writing a book is how many writers accept less than perfection.  I am a perfectionist and I wanted this story told clearly with absolutely no typos or blemishes.  I was surprised to see how many writers are comfortable putting out a product that is less than perfect.

11.  Have you ever considered writing legal fiction books like John Grisham?

I have not considered fiction at this point.

12. Where could one purchase Blindsided: One man’s fight for a child born without eyes?

Blindsided can be purchased at Amazon (www.amazon.com/Blindsided-Crusade-Against-Chemical-DuPont/dp/1469036002), Books-A-Million, Barnes & Noble or at any major airport in the United States.

13. Last question, as a lawyer who would you defend in a trial between Batman V. Superman?

I would probably represent Superman as Superman is pure good, unlike Batman, who has a little bit of a dark side.

I’m very pleased to inform all my readers about this nonfiction book. I also want to thank Mr. James Ferraro for answering my questions. I really hope anyone reading this interview would check out this gripping true story novel. If you want to reach Mr. James Ferraro click this link to get to his website: https://projectblindsided.com/  Thanks for stopping by to read yet another interview by an excellent author. Take care and hope to see you here again.

Review on House Trap by Mike Mauthor

A blog called “A Journey with Books” recently post a review of House Trap. Besides reading the actual review at that site you should also check it out in general: http://debasishray19.blogspot.in/ . Thanks again Debasish Ray Mohapatra for the post.

WARNING:- This review has a major spoiler and reveal the twist of House Trap.

About story:
The story started with a cool and chill night. Everyone was preparing themselves for the upcoming Christmas. A little boy, just 10 years old, named Nicolas was staring at the sky and imagining about those gifts he’d be going to get for this Christmas. But all of a sudden mishap happened in his house that night. Nicolas found both of his parents murdered inside the house.
After 30 years, the same scenario happened again. But this time it was about Rachel who went to Alicia’s house as a tutor and had to spend a night there which was against her decision. Alicia’s father was the inventor of house trap and a well renowned person for his invention. But that night unfortunately, Alicia’s parents were absent inside the house. Two intruders, one of them was Jay Alicia’s friend and another one was Scott entered to house for some money. They both killed Alicia and tried to kill Rachel and Alicia’s brother Nathan and little sister Amy.

But the story looked most interesting, when you will get to know that Alicia’s father was no other than Nicolas, a person who went through these incidents at his tender age and invented house trap for the safety purpose. Now his invention worked as curse for his family. As the house trap was activated no one was able to come outside of that house including murderers and innocent kids. And after finishing the story I am sure that the whole drama was with full of suspense and actions and also thrilled you.
For me: What I liked about this story was finally Rachel learnt a lesson about life, freedom and realized that family & friends are much more important than just a good college and a degree.
The story was well plotted just like sequences of picture frames and it was smooth and a well thrilled story. I enjoyed it.

Don’t forget to keep checking this blog for any further news on the sequel to House Trap titled Fiery Trap. Take care and I hope you come here again soon:) House Trap is available on amazon, barnes and noble, kobo, sony, and smashwords.

Business Idea: Elohim Cleaning Contractor

Source:http://www.elohimcleaningcontractors.com/a-companyhistory.htm
Elohim Cleaning Contractors Inc. was born after Sirena Moore had a life changing conversation with her father Theodore Moore a union construction laborer at the time for over 15 years. Both Sirena Moore and Theodore Moore Sr. were employed at a very large construction project in Lansdale, PA where Theodore Moore worked as a laborer and Sirena Moore, a teenage mother, worked as an office administrator. There had always been conversations about starting a family business and after gaining access to the final cleaning portion of the contract where both individuals were employed the decision was made.

Theodore and Sirena noticed that a final cleaning contractor had been awarded a six figure contract to do work that Theodore and his crew had already completed. Both individuals saw an opportunity for a very valuable service within the industry. In 2002, about two years later Sirena began searching the internet to gain information about business planning and start-up resources. By this time, Sirena gained employment as a Financial Sales Assistant for a large investment firm. She made arrangements for a babysitter to care for her young twin daughters and sacrificed two nights out of the week to attend a business plan class offered by the Women’s Business Development Center in Philadelphia, PA. Meanwhile, Theodore Sr. and Jr. began accepting small debris removal projects. This was only the beginning. On June 19, 2002, five days before Sirena’s 21st birthday Theodore Moore Sr. made the appointment with the attorney and Elohim Cleaning Contractors was incorporated.

Although start-up was very difficult it was not impossible. The family put their heads together and made some very hard decisions. There was no start-up capital so the first employee was paid with Theodore’s unemployment check. Sirena did all administrative work, marketing materials, contracts, and more in the evening so that she could continue working full-time in order to provide for her twin daughters. Theodore Jr. assisted Theodore Sr. with all field duties. The office was Theodore Jr.’s bedroom at the family home. Having no start-up capital was not enough to stop what Elohim started. Elohim Cleaning Contractors has now surpassed the million dollar sales mark in under five years and the company is growing at a rapid pace. Elohim currently has no debts and no loans, and has managed to provide full-time employment for every officer and has employed as many as 61 minority men and women with very diverse backgrounds.

It has been said and proven that many businesses fail within the first five years of business. However, Elohim Cleaning Contractors has managed to make it past the five year point and business is soaring. The first few years were spent organizing and finding our niche within the market. Strategic and Operational Plans were put in place by Sirena to foster company growth. We expect sales to exceed $1.8 million in 2008. Thus far, sales revenues have been used to maintain payroll for ongoing projects, renovate current office space, purchase office equipment and acquire new and used equipment and vehicles for use at various job sites. Elohim has faced many obstacles that most small businesses face such as lack of working capital, unreliable employees, and general day to day administrative errors. However, we believe that proper planning and the favor of God have been the keys to success for Elohim Cleaning Contractors Inc.
