A millionaire before 21: Fraser Doherty

Fraser Doherty, at the age of 14, started to make jams that he got from his grandmother’s recipes in his parents kitchen. His friends and Neighors loved them. Through word of mouth, Doherty received more orders than he could produce at home so he rented a 200-person food- processing factory many days a month. Last year Superjam hit $750,000 in sales and is on track to double that in 2008. Based on reasonable valuation multiple of one times revenue– J.M Smucker trades at 1.2 times sales while Doherty’s 100% stake is worth in the neighborhood of $1 million to $2 million. Doherty’s recommendation to other young entrepreneurs like him is to “Have an attitude of adventure and enjoy the journey.”

Doherty’s other Advice: Go with the flow.  Doherty borrowed 5000 pounds($9000) from a bank to cover general expenses and more factory time to produce three flavors. His product is in 300 stores across the U.K. In march, Superjam will launch in Ireland.

Unique products/Service that people thought of

 1. SUPER YOU (http://www.superyou.com/index.php):-  I wish they had this when I was a kid. A great product for kids, you go to the website and describe what superhero costume you want and they ship it in a cool box.

2. Baby plays(http://www.babyplays.com/):-  Another service I wished I had when I was kid. It’s just like Netflix only they serve toys instead of movies. Parents could order toys from their wish list and the company would mail a box filled with toys for kids to play with as long as you want. The only problem with this is the price, it’s quite expensive and you have to be in a three months plan.

3.Would you rather..?( http://www.zobmondo.com/index.php):-  a fun board game that you ask anyone a “Would you rather…” questions. For instance, would you rather….

     A.   Choose to see your future (without being able to change it)
                         -OR-
   B.  know everyone else’s future and not be able to tell them?

The questions are from kid friendly to adult only.

4. Send a ball (https://sendaball.com/) :- you could send a ball to anyone. An interesting way to give a gift to a friend or family

Rags to Riches: Chris Gardner (Part I)

Christopher Paul Gardner (born February 9, 1954 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is a self-made millionaire,  entrepreneur,  motivational speaker and philanthropist who, during the early 1980s, struggled with homelessness  while raising his toddler son, Christopher, Jr.  Gardner’s book of memoirs was published in May 2006 by Amistad, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers.

As of 2006, he is CEO of his own stockbrokerage firm,  Gardner Rich & Co, based in Chicago, Illnois  where he resides when he is not living in New York City. Gardner credits his tenacity and success to his “spiritual genetics” handed down to him by his mother, Bettye Jean Triplett, née Gardner, and to the high expectations placed on him by his children, Chris Jr. (born 1981) and his daughter, Jacintha (born 1985). Gardner’s personal struggle of establishing himself as a stockbroker while managing fatherhood and homelessness is portrayed in the 2006 motion picture The Pursuit of Happyness, starring actor Will Smith.

Part II of Rags to Riches would be coming soon.

Spill.com on Vantage Point/Semi-Pro

Vantage point: Haven’t seen the movie, probably going to check it out on DVD, but if anyone has seen it, do you agree with critics on the youtube clip or not?

Semi-pro: As for semi-pro,  I totally agree with what they said (even though i haven’t seen the movie). I’m tried of him playing the same role in different movies. I too saw “Stranger than fiction” and thought he was good. “ElF” was another movie that he did a good job. He should seriously choose roles that would make him grow as an actor because sooner or later( i predict sooner) people will stop watching his films all together.

UPDATE: semi-pro was number one in the box office but didn’t profit much so it’s a bit of a failure to the studio’s eyes.
